Icelandics sell remainign shares
|
From C&H:
The Icelandic’s have finally sold their remaining ten percent shareholding of West Ham United to an American investment firm called The Blackstone Group. The firm boast they have $371billion assets under their management.
As part of the sale of shares, Albert ‘Tripp’ Smith joins the board of West Ham directors to undersee the new investment.
Albert (Tripp) Smith is a Senior Managing Director of The Blackstone Group, and a Founder of GSO Capital Partners. Before co-founding GSO which he sold to Blackstone in 2008 for about $1bn. Prior to that Smith was Global Head of the Capital Markets Group within the Alternative Capital Division of CSFB.
The sale ends an eleven-year association with the former Icelandic consortium who were victims of the 2008 financial crisis.

nobody invests in a football club these days without thinking there is money to be made. What do you imagine is the business of an investment group like Blackstone? ;-)

Not like you to be pedantic B.
I'll elaborate for you........ are they merely looking at having 10% to sell on in the future, or is this a step towards actually owning the club?

Only relevant if they start picking up other shares. As Gold & Sullivan own c86% with less than 4% with others it is really reliant on G&S wanting 'out' - probably only if really silly money and when they don't have to pay back any.

Firstly the Icelandic banks were victims of their own hubris and secondly I fervently hope, that as an exception, WHU remain in majority British ownership.

He also owns a timber yard down Plashet Grove. Hopefully.

As an investment group they either got a great deal or are confident in the value of the club going up. Have they not seen us play recently???

Hmmm... Albert (Tripp) Smith.
I'd be much less suspicious of the whole thing if he were Albert Tripp, rather than 'Tripp' Smith.
The silly yank cunt.

Hold on, Blackstone bought 10% of West Ham ?
These are serious players. In terms of private equity or commercial property, they're about as big as it gets. They're not doing this for fun, they must see a potential angle somewhere.

Maybe they want to see a return on investment by way of a regular dividend?
That or a sale but a sale just means they would need to find something else to buy so assume this means that part of your love of this club is now also going into the pockets of other rich cunts apart from footballers and porn magnates.
